Deezer Reports Spike in AI-Generated Music

Deezer has announced a major shift in its music uploads: 28% of all tracks added to the platform are now fully AI-generated. The French streaming service shared this statistic in a new report after deploying an AI-detection system earlier this year.

The platform is now seeing 30,000 AI-influenced tracks uploaded every day, compared to just 10,000 in February. More alarmingly, 70% of the plays of AI-created songs are linked to fraudulent behavior, according to the company.

CEO Alexis Lanternier said Deezer is taking action. The platform has started labelling songs that use AI and is working on expanding its detection tools to identify deep fake vocals. “We aim to minimize negative impacts while promoting a transparent and fair experience for both fans and creators,” he said.

AI-generated music isn’t only a concern for Deezer. A July investigation by 404 Media found that an AI-made song was uploaded to the Spotify profile of late country artist Blaze Foley, who passed away in 1989. The song bore no resemblance to Foley’s style and used a generic AI image as cover art. It appeared without the approval of his label.

As AI continues to shape the music landscape, Deezer is among the first major platforms trying to strike a balance between innovation and authenticity.
